Steal one of our favorite tools: The Empathy Map
An Empathy Map helps you look at a challenge through the eyes of the people affected by it—whether that’s your customers, employees, or the communities you work with.
We’re sharing our template so you can try it with your team.
Why Empathy Maps Work:
They bring discipline to empathy. “Let’s think about our employees” becomes a focused conversation rather than a vague goal.
They make room for all perspectives. With thoughtful choices about whose experiences you explore—and who you invite into the conversation—you begin to see what otherwise might be missed.
They surface gaps worth exploring. Where do you have real insight? Where are you guessing? What can you learn from talking to your people?
That last point matters. An empathy map doesn’t replace listening or research. It helps distill the wisdom already in the room, and shows where you need to dig deeper. Mark what you know and what you’re assuming, then use those gaps to guide your next conversations.
